The Blue Hill Library serves all the people of Blue Hill Peninsula: children, adults, people of all backgrounds and circumstances who seek information and the pleasure that comes from the life of the mind. The library also serves as a dynamic cultural center, preserving the past while exploring the future. Newer multimedia technologies are integrated with the traditional collections of books, maps, periodicals, and newspapers.

St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church meets in its newly expanded building on Route 177 (Hinkley Ridge Road) 2 1/2 miles from the center of Blue Hill. Sunday Eucharists at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.; Wednesday Eucharist at 12:00 noon. On Sundays, child care is provided for children through age 3 and Sunday School meets for children 4 to 10 beginning at 10:15 a.m. There are frequent adult education programs during the week. Choir meets Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. and Sundays at 9:15 a.m. All are welcome.

Blue Hill Memorial Hospital (BHMH) is a non-profit primary care system serving 13 communities in western Hancock County. Organized in 1921, BHMH became New England's first federally designated Critical Access hospital in December 1998. There are 24 physicians on the active staff, all of them Board-certified. In addition to its main facility in Blue Hill, BHMH also owns and operates Hancock County HomeCare (formerly, Four Town Nursing Service), a Medicare-certified home health and hospice agency The Health Education Center and, 6 non-profit, community-based medical practices.

Discover Blue Hill Bay with the marine naturalists of MERI as your guides. Programs for all ages include Eco-cruises aboard the research vessel R/V MERI. Learn how lobsters are caught and where clams live; identify and explore ecosystems in the intertidal zone; learn how pollution, currents and food supplies affect the lives of the residents of Blue Hill Bay: seals, osprey, harbor porpoise, bald eagles, the sea plants and the species who live among them. Youth explorers may even be able to help gather data for ongoing research.
